If you have waited it out, there a few good deals to be had right now on netbooks. The downside is that it might not make it under the Christmas tree, but hey, patience should be rewarded with a few bucks off.
I am excited about the Acer Aspire AOD250-1584. For those that don’t memorize Acer’s numbering scheme, this is a 10.1″ netbook, with the 6 cell battery. What sets it apart is the Atom N280 processor, one inch thin, 250 GB hard drive and Windows 7 Starter Edition. It has a long battery runtime as well, in the 7 to 8 hour range. What makes it a good deal is that it can be had from Amazon for just under $300.
If you like that model, but want it for just a little less, check out the Acer Aspire AOD250-1197. It has similar specs, including the larger hard drive and strong battery performance. The one difference is that it uses the N270 processor, which is ever so slightly slower. Unless you are obsessed with benchmarks, it is a better deal at $279 in my opinion.
Over at NewEgg, they have the Samsung NC10 retailing for $300. It has standard netbook specs including the 10.1″ screen, 160 GB hard drive, and Atom N270 chip, with the 6 cell battery which claims a 6 hour battery life. Pay via PayPal and the price reportedly drops to $270. As an aside, I’ve long liked the Samsung netbooks, and am pleased that they are coming down in price to where the competition is.
Finally, for the rock bottom bargain hunter, check out the MSI Wind U100. It has standard netbook specs, and a 3 cell battery. With a coupon code for the next few days, it can be had for $255, which is the cheapest netbook that can be bought for the last few days with the N270 chip. It is available from eWiz through the next weekend.
