Coming in as a little bit of ‘is this really news’ we have confirmation that Lenovo is “watching” the developments of Chrome OS. Yes, at this time they have simply confirmed that they are watching it, not that they are planning to use it, or even that they are testing it — just watching it.
The statement comes courtesy of Lenovo spokesman Howard Locker, who was noted as saying that;
“We’re watching it but it’s too early to tell because they don’t even have alpha code to test,”
Logically that does make sense. I guess it is nice to see they are watching this, and as one would imagine, at least considering running Chrome OS on their future netbooks. But at the same time I am not feeling all that hopeful about future Linux based netbooks coming from Lenovo because it seems they are ready to push away and focus only on Windows models.
In a separate statement, Locker noted that the “S9 and S10 model netbooks had Linux loads, but they didn’t do well so we stopped selling them.” Furthermore, he mentioned that “people didn’t realize what they bought, and they returned them because they expected Windows and thought they were broken they expected Windows.”
Bottom line, it looks like Chrome OS better be a really good alternative for us to see it on Lenovo netbooks.
