Sony Vaio X

I have to wonder what Sony thinks they are doing lately.  In our current economic times, consumers want devices that are “good enough” and are willing to sacrifice performance to get it at a lower price.  It is an enigma that they think they can charge whatever they want for their gear.  While the specs are not all known, this is much is about the Vaio X:

  • Windows 7 Home Premium
  • 11.1″ widescreen display
  • 1.6 lbs
  • 2 GB RAM
  • “available” 128 GB SSD
  • Verizon wireless broadband
  • Standard or 14 hour battery
  • 2 GHz Intel Atom processor

This Vaio X starts at $1299, and goes up from there.  I suspect that most users seriously lose interest in any Atom device that exceeds $500, and here we are approaching 3 times that!  Sony needs to either seriously cheapen this thing up pronto, or trade the Atom for a CULV, preferably dual core and market this as the ultimate in thin, light and powerful.  As it stands, it is a mere curiosity as thin is only worth so much to most users.  This thing makes the Acer Ferrari look like a bargain.
