Even companies that traditionally didn’t make computers, have jumped in the netbook market. Examples include LG, Nokia and Epson. We just might have another example of this phenomenon, from memory giant SanDisk.
While they are generally known for their flash memory cards, they have been known to manufacture products that will feature their memory. Their line of Sansa music players illustrates that point nicely. As netbooks have used flash memory for storage, their could be a reason to make the entire netbook, simply to fill it up with their flash somehow, whether via the memory card slot, or better yet, via the SSD as the primary drive.
While the above would be nothing more than rumor, I stumbled upon references to a SanDisk product, the N120 “Coming soon.” So far, we know only that the specs on this are:
- SANDISK N120-12GBK
- N270 1.6ghz
- 1gb ram
- 160gb hdd
- 8gb secure digital hc card
While I have to admit that I was curious if this was even real, or just some reference to a Samsung N120 with an included SanDisk SD card, it is appearing on enough retail sites, that I think it is real. None are selling quite yet which makes me curious for an announcement next week some time. It also piques my interest as SanDisk has been known to help drive prices down in some markets that they enter which may be good for consumers.
