MSI is introducing their new Wind U230. It appears to fit into the category of a laptop that is just larger than a traditional netbook, as it has a 12.1″ screen size. This puts it into the CULV category; however there is one important difference in that it uses an AMD chip.
Here are the specs on the MSI Wind U230:
- AMD Athlon Neo X2 Dual-Core Processor, Yukon CPU MV40/ L335 Processor
- Windows 7 Home Premium
- “Up to” 4 GB of RAM, DDR2
- 12.1″ display, 1366 x 768
- AMD Radeon 3200 graphics, shared memory
- SATA hard drives, 160 GB-250GB-320GB
- 1.3 MP webcam
- 4-in-1 flash card reader (xD, SD, MMC, MS)
- 3 USB ports
- HDMI out
- 1.3 kg
- 3 or 6 cell battery, “4 hour battery life”
It seems a little bit of mystery exactly the story of this Neo X2 processor. It looks like it draws 18 W, which is far more than an Atom chip, but it is a dual core processor which explains the battery life. The pricing on this MSI unit is also unknown as it is not for sale yet.
