Today’s deal comes to us from eCost. While it is a refurb, the price is right, and it runs Windows XP from a 16 GB solid state drive. I also want to point out that I’m not sure why they have an icon stating that this device will be eligible for a Windows 7 upgrade. While it should run Win 7 without an issue, it will cost you. No machine that runs Windows XP that is sold now will be eligible for a “free” upgrade. I put free in quotes because even for a qualifying computer, the manufacturer can charge shipping fees which cost me $10 for an MSI notebook.
At any rate, I digress. Today’s deal is the HP Mini 1116NR. Here are the specs:
- Intel Atom N270 1.6 GHz processor
- 1 GB DDR2 RAM
- 16 GB SSD
- Windows XP Home
- 3 cell battery
- 8.9″ LCD display, 1024 x 600
- Intel graphics media accelerator 950
- Integrated webcam
- WiFi b/g
- Memory card slot (SD, MMC)
- 2 USB ports
- 2.5 pounds
- 90 day warranty, parts & labor
One downside is that it only has 2 USB ports, so after a mouse and flash drive, there is not room for anything else. The other is that left and right mouse buttons are to the side of the trackpad, a generally less preferable arrangement. Still, if we factor in the $199 price point, it is hard to complain.
