Even while netbooks get smaller, they also are growing at the other end. An example of this is the Asus UL30A. If we merged a more traditional ultraportable with a netbook, the UL30A is likely what we would get. Here are the specs:
- Intel SU7300 processor, 1.3GHz
- 13.3″ LCD display, 1366 x 768
- 4 GB DDR2 RAM
- 500 GB hard drive, 5400 rpm
- 8 cell battery, 12 hour claimed runtime
- GMA 4500MHD integrated graphics
- 3 USB ports
- HDMI port
- 5-in-1 flash card reader
- WiFi N
- Bluetooth 2.0
- Vista Home Premium
- 3.7 pounds
Impressive hardware for those of us that occupy ourselves looking at netbook specs. This is another example of a machine that uses an Intel CULV processor, and this time it is the dual core part that should kick the performance up a notch. However, this UL30A is debuting at a non-netbook price of $800. While that compares favorably to most ultraportable computers, that is beyond the stratosphere of netbook territory. It will be interesting to see if consumers will respond favorably to a product like this.
