Acer Aspire 1410

Acer Aspire 1410

Straddling the line between traditional notebooks, and netbooks, are these CULV models.  Acer has an example of such a device, the Aspire 1410.  Here’s a quick rundown of the specs:

  • 11.6″ display, 1366 x 768
  • Core 2 Solo processor, ULV SU3500, 1.4 GHz
  • 2 GB of RAM
  • 250 GB SATA hard drive
  • Windows Vista Home Premium SP1
  • Multigesture touchpad
  • WiFi b/g/draft-N
  • 4-in-1 flash card reader
  • 3.08 pounds

While it currently is available for $439, and that is a premium above mainstream netbooks, from the specs, we can see that it does have upgrades in just about every spec.  Also, the processor, while still a single core like the Atom, has significantly more processing power.  The only downside, aside from price is that it comes with Vista as the OS that some folks don’t like, and the battery life will not be 10 hours, and more like 6 hours which is still favorable over most current notebooks.  While the 1410 is not a netbook, due to its size, weight and price, it does end up competing with them, and quite favorably in many categories.  I think this will fit the niche for the user who likes the idea of a netbook, but wants it to do “Just a little more,” and is willing to shell out another hundred for it.
