Having a PC, or personal computer, is all about options. Many folks take personalization to the extreme of personalizing every aspect of their computer. Others are content to make a few changes. Whatever we do, we want the computer to be ours, and distinct. Few PC’s stay as they shipped to us on the first day.
One good example of customization is to change the desktop wallpaper. Just abut everyone will swap out the default one that ships with the operating system, and change it something more of their liking. There are whole websites devoted to finding the perfect desktop wallpaper to suit your needs.
From the title of this post, you probably know where this is going by now. Turns out that in the Windows 7 Starter Edition, they have it so locked down that you can’t even change out the background desktop wallpaper. I’m surprised that they would be so petty to do this. After all, I’ve used every version of Windows from 3.1 to 7, and this has been a standard feature since 95, and I know I always change the background. I know this feature isn’t costing them anything, so to lock it down in the hopes that we upgrade is just silly. Apparently, there is a feature in UxStyle to bypass this “feature.”
