Lately there has been much attention on Google’s Android. A versatile operating system, it could certainly do more than power a smartphone. There have been some thoughts that Android just might be perfect to run a netbook, and with Google giving it away, the price is right.
However, NVidia is less than enthusiastic about Android on netbooks. In fact, they are recommending that Windows CE will run better on ARM based netbooks. Recall that netbooks based on ARM processors, for whatever reason, simply don’t run full blown versions of Windows. However, given the choices, Windows CE is not exactly as robust as consumers may be looking for. I would venture to guess that some versions of Linux would fly better, at least with the real enthusiasts. Once ARM chips get into the netbooks, I look forward to seeing what OS actually ends up running them.
