Nokia Netbook

While Nokia is the world’s largest maker of mobile devices, that is largely based on worldwide sales.  In the end, they don’t exactly dominate the US smartphone market.  Actually, that’s an understatement as they don’t even have any carrier offering any of their smartphones here in the states.

Consumers moving towards smartphones, we’re still early in this shift away from dumber phones.  Palm has recently shown that it is not too late to get back into this game with the introduction of their Pre.

With this background, today’s announcement that Nokia is partnering with Intel for a deal for Atom processors.  It is not sure yet whether this will be to produce Atom based smartphones, or perhaps a Nokia designed smartbook of some sort. Let’s not forget that Nokia did make some “internet tablets,” and that expertise could be go into a more current smartbook of some sort.
