HP Mini 2140 Cut From the Lineup

While the HP Mini 2140 had its fans, it was recently discovered that HP is no longer going to be making it. It is not known what motivated the decision, but it is certainly possible that a newer model will be introduced in time for back-to-school laptop selling season.

With these short product cycles, stuff goes out of date as fast as it is introduced.  While the basic specs resemble many other netbooks (Atom N270, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB hard drive), there were some things to set the Mini 2140 apart.  These included a 92% keyboard that was well liked for its stable feel and ease of use.  There was also an option to upgrade the 1024 x 576 display to a 1366 x 768, both displaying 10.1″ of LCD.  While the 1.05″ thickness and 2.6 lb were a plus, having only 2 USB ports, where most have 3, was a minor shortcoming.

if you’d like to grab one of these Mini 2140’s before the sun sets on one of the better netbooks out there, the $299 (after 2 rebates) deal is still available. Then again, we’ll have to see what next month shows…
