It seems that just about every netbook uses the same Intel Atom N270 processor, with the rare rebel using the N280 which runs slightly faster. However, there are other options planned out there.
Gizmodo is reporting that Intel is planning a Z550 part. It will reportedly be the first Atom to reach 2 GHz. While not designed for netbooks specifically, it could find its way there. It also draws the same 2.4 Watts as the pervious Atoms.
Also, keep a lookout for an even lower powered Z515. This part is expected to run at 1.2 GHz, and draw a mere 1.4 W at full load. It will also idle back to 800 MHz, and draw a miserly 0.65 W.
