Yup, that post title is serious. While some netbook prices make me wonder why not just buy a fuller featured notebook, some manufacturers realize that these are secondary machines and should be built and priced as such. Case in point…
A few months back, Belco released a netbook that broke the $200 mark. Sure, it sports a 7″ LCD and a 400 MHz processor. We also won’t mention that the RAM is 128 megs, and the hard drive is 1 gig of flash, or that it uses some generic flavor of Linux. Let’s also forget for a moment that the WiFi is the elderly standard of 802.11b. The real news is that the device debuted at under two Benjamin Franklins, and that it is currently available for $169.99.
Disposable electronics anyone?
