Netbook Overview

Not exactly sure what a netbook is?  Well, I can tell you that it is one segment of the computing market that is experiencing growth.  Got your attention now?  I thought so!

In general, these are small and very portable computers with a screen size of 7 to 10 inches.  Most use the Intel Atom N270 processor which sports a single core.  Some have hard drives from 80 to 160 gigs, and others get by with a flash based hard drive for better battery life which can be as long as 9 hours under ideal usage.  They all can connect to the internet via WiFi.

The whole reason behind a netbook is ultraportable computing power.  By trading power for portability, you can bring the computer to more places.  With more applications residing in the web browser, and less on the desktop, most users can get quite a bit done without their quad core processor from their desktop.

The best part about netbooks is their price.  The sweet spot is around $349, and most are under $500.  There are even occasional bargains below $200 so the price of entry is quite small.  As we find these bargains, we’re here to clue you in…

While the above is a good general overview, here’s some further reading about the product category.
