HP Mini 1000 Review

The HP Mini 1000 is a highly portable netbook.  While the specs look fairly vanilla on initial view, with the ubiquitous Atom 1.6 GHz chip, and 1 GB of RAM, closer inspection will reveal an important difference.  The hard drive used is a 1.8″ model, 60 GB capacity, and while it gives up speed with its 4,200 RPM pindle speed, it makes up for it with its smaller size compared to other netbooks. This also contributes to making the HP Mini 1000 one of the lightest and smallest netbooks on the market.  While you don’t have to give up a 10.2″ LCD screen with 1024 x 600 pixels, a standard screen size for this segment, another weakness is that it has only 2 USB ports, while most of its competition has three.  Finally, the 3 cell battery gives it a battery life no better than most notebooks at the 2+ hour mark.
