Purists believe there is a set blueprint for a netbook. While it should have a 7″ to 10″ screen and a great battery life, one thing it shouldn’t have is an optical drive. On the one hand, an optical drive gives the netbook an additional capability to work with CD’s and DVD’s. However, with the requisite increase in size, and weight, the netbook can quickly grow into a standard laptop sized machine, and most of us would trade in our Atom chip for some dual core goodness.
Still, in a crowded market, companies are looking to distinguish themselves and get their products to stand out. While the specs are otherwise plain jane vanilla for the Asus Eee PC 1004DN, the optical drive does set it apart from the competition.
